Factual:
The clip is primarily aimed at 20 year old car fanatics due to the in depth analysis of the specifications regarding the car. However the extract would also appeals to families due to the comedic element incorporated into the content such as the elaborate facial expressions and similes expressed by Jeremy Clarkson, the easy to follow story line and content also appeals to this demographic.this ultimately greatly enhancing the target market for the production. For example the aspect of the extract in which he describes the cars immense power and the effect it consequently entails as "hurtling around in a puddle of your own feces gunning like an infant"-situated at approximately 5:25 this again dramatically enhances the comedic element on the viewer and again appealing to families. The psycho graphic in which this clip is aimed at is primarily middle and upper class men due to the great expense of the car and traveling to a formula one circuit which is often associated with wealth and luxury; however due to the general entertains element the clip also appeals to the working and lower class men as well. The clip incorporates a presenter and no actors as this would been unnecessary medium to convey the factual information. The presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, conveys the information directly to the reader to enhance in the element of immersion among the audience. Which again consequently results In a larger fan base. Jeremy Clarkson could have potential to been used as he is perceived as a middle class man who is immensely easy to relate to, due to his general personality and likable traits.this factor again contributes to the shows I immense popularity.A further potential reason why Jeremy Clarkson was as been chosen to present the show is due to his vast history regarding cars, thus conveying the perception of both knowledge and experience which enhances the possibility of the predominantly male audience to be more inclined to watch to the extract. No interviews are incomparable into the text due to the neater of the extract.however voice overs are incorporated to enable shots such as close ups of the car and extreme long shots of the circuit to be integrated this there for dramatically enhances the viewers scenes of immersion. The vast array of shots , of which the majority consist of voice overs, increase the quality of the extract consequently again appealing to the middle class psycho graphic.
Fictional:
The target audience for this extract is primarily males aged between 12 and 35 due to the vast quantities of action accompanied by mild violence thus rendering it suitable for the younger demographic. The use charismatic characters also enables a large audience to be reached both in the younger and older demographic. However due to the vast family appeal of the film female viewers both within the old and young demographic will experience the film. This enables the company to mass market there production and consequently increase the revenue produced. The incorporation of evocative scenes again enhances the productions target audience as they enable the viewer to sympathies for the character consequently enhancing the films element of immersion. The extract integrates a vast range of stereotypical features present in the vast majority of action movies, for example the fast pass action a feature exhibited in almost every action movie due to the vast quantities of excitement and exhilaration entailed. An additional stereotypical feature is the juxtaposed of both good and evil, with the eventual, yet seemingly impossible, triumph of good. This evokes an element of pride among the audience due to the hatred of evil conveyed throughout the extract. However during the final scenes of the extract the character perceived to be evil through put the duration of the movie due to his low and ominous voice, sinister attire and the general presents of low key lighting converts to the good side to help prevent evil this consequently incorporates and element of surprise as it defies the stereotypical action movie outline. However due to the lack of a dominate character it enables the audience to pick a side- despite the inevitable triumph of good - which again enhances the element of immersion. The extract incorporate a vast range of stars, such as Mark Hamill (best known for his portrayal as Luke sky walker) this greatly enhances the quantity of viewers attracted to the product as fans from prior movies will poet shakily what he the movie primarily for a specific actor which both enables revenue to be produced form existing fans of prior movies and new viewers. The main moral conveyed though out the movie is that good will always success despite the magnitude of evil it faces. I also suggest good will never truly succumb to evil, as represented in the extracted when death Vader overpowers and brutally murders the primary evil character. The story line runs through to a series of 6 episodes with 3 episodes spontaneously released with a 20 year interval before a further 3 episodes were released , consequently incorporating an immense element of suspense and enable the film makers to incorporated cliff hangers to again enhance this element . However the Star Wars franchise fails to follow the generic trend present in the vast majority of film series as the later episodes were released fist (4,5,6) the first episode (1,2,3) were then released subsequent to this and explained the prior movies this again builds up suspense between intervals of movies being released. Finally the extract clearly conveys a series of themes such as farther son relationship this enables viewers to relate to the emotions evoked by the characters, war fair is also a key them present throughout the franchise this again incorporated a feature that is often associated with humans, thus enabling the viewer to related to the human traits emphasized in the characters. There is also an overpowering element of loyalty conveyed throughout the duration on each episode again an emotion that is salary relatable. Each of the theme enable the viewer to be greatly impressed in the product.
Media 3B in depth fictional analysis:
During the opening scenes of the fictional extract (star wars) a series of mid shots are displayed in fast succession depicting both good and evil in a frantic battle, this adds an element of disorientation and confusion to the extract because the viewer doesn't know were the protagonist are and therefor have nothing to follow - this prevents the viewer from relaxing and being able to follow the story, and almost is as if the viewer ids throw into the action .The effect of confusion is also communicated among the audience as there is not incorporation of an establishing shot. (potentially avoided to convey the confusion expressed by the protagonists and to exaggerated the sudden outbreak in battle). However as the scene progresses to approximately 15 seconds in the duel it comes to a sudden end and the camera work dramatically slows down with a medium tracking shot, depicting clear partial defeat of the villain the shot ranges from exactly 0.14 to 0.16. The momentary use of the tracking shot potentially acts as the establishing shot in the extract as it enables the viewer to immerse in the surroundings, not only of the ship its self but the location in which the ship is situated. In this case the depths of space, adding a scenes of captivity as the protagonist is physically unable to escape, thus evoking an element of fear and tension with in the audience as the anticipated ending often clip in which Luke sky walker would escape unharmed is now altered with no clear ending. The inky darkness of space depicted behind the aggressor at precisely 0.15 seconds adds a slightly ominous element to the extract again enhancing the element of fear. The use of the ominous background potentially supports the idea that the aggressor will defeat the protagonist due to the negative connotations associated with black.
During the shot commencing 2.05 a scene is introduced with a medium wide shot, again acting as the establishing shot. However is immensely subtle potentially to accentuate the tense atmosphere subsequent to the disappearance of the protagonist. the wide nature of the shot it enables the audience to attain a greater field of view similar to that of the aggressor as he scans the room for the protagonist evoking similar emotions to that of the aggressor. The location in which the event occurs is seemingly situated below the prior location, and the ominous element is again greatly enhanced due to the strategic use of low key lighting and lack of variation in color as the entirety of the scene is primarily black with flicks of dark blue. The sheer lack of light and visibility is greatly enhanced in comparison to the prior shots, implying the protagonist has been defeated due to the overpowering force of evil, represented in the lighting, where as in the previous location glimpses of light shone through suggesting the protagonist may have exhibited the power to overcome the aggressor. This again alters the anticipated ending. The shot evokes a lack of hope and courage for the protagonist among the audience which ultimately results in both fear and a slight element of sadness to be expressed in the audience.
Finally the scene during the final stages of the extract (7.05) depicting the decent of the new aggressor as he plummets to his death, the use of the long shot conveys to the audience the severity and magnitude of the decent, thus accentuating the clear victory of the protagonist. The sheer length of the decent and use of dark and ominous lighting leading to a vivid bright light situated at the end of the tunnel implies the long and painful journey perused by the protagonist to overpower evil as the vivid light represents the immense force exhibited within the protagonist. Evoking happiness with in the audience due the unexpected victory of the protagonist despite the immense element of doubt imposed on the audience throughout the duration of the extract. However alternately the sheer height of the camera and brutal death of the aggressor potentially evokes a slight element of fear within the audience similar to that of the aggressor. There for the shot successfully conveys the emotions expressed by each character, therefore incorporating a great element of immersion among the audience.
Throughout the duration of the Extract a series of editing Technics have been incorporated to convey an effect known as invisible editing or classic editing. This genre of editing is incorporated to be subtle and only noticeable during in-depth analysis, invisible editing is often integrated into fictional films to ensure the audience are primarily focuses on the action don't experience confusion as a result of the editing, however the genre also ensures an element of complexity is also integrated in to the production to enhance revenue. The extract is a prime example of this as it ensures the audience will remain captivated with in the action enabling the production to ultimately evoke the correct emotions at certain times throughout the extract, consequently resulting in a greater quality production. An editing Technic incorporated to ensure this effect is achieved is a Technic know as shot/reverse shot often used during dialogue however is used to accentuate the fast pass action during the opening scenes commencing during the 5th second as the camera cuts between close ups depicting both the protagonist and the aggressor in a frantic duel, rapidly conveying the emotions of each character and consequently evoking resign among the audience due to the lack of a clear victor as both character are displayed for an equal duration of time suggesting equality in power and again altering the anticipated ending of the extract. Which also evokes an element of excitement among the audience due to the blurred ending.
A technique incorporated to result in the invisible editing effect is the use of CGI to enhance the overall effect of the extract and to ensure a greater realistic element is achieved. Aspects in the movie such as the ominous depths of space and the fluidity of the light Sabre s are all achieved via CGI. it’s vital that fluidity achieved in each light saber duel to maintain the captivation of the audience an example of CGI occurs during the opening scenes at approximately 10 seconds in which both the protagonist and the aggressor viciously battle evoking a multitude of emotions within the audience such as fear, excitement and ultimately tension again due to the unpredictability of the subsequent events. . However without the immense fluidity of the revolutionary CGI Incorporated these effects would simply be impossible to achieve as the audience would be unable to immerse themselves I to the action due to the poor and prominent editing.
The extract integrates both dietetic and non-dietetic audio into the extract. for example an asynchronous backing track is played during the opening 10 seconds (an example of non-dietetic audio) The backing track conveys an element of relaxation among the audience prior to the outbreak of dramatic battle, potentially incorporated to enhance the dramatic emotions evoked with in the audience due to the great surprise of action ultimately severely enhancing these emotions in comparison to the effects of synchronous music which would enable the audience to anticipate the action and severely reduce the element of surprise. However this track is overpowered by the vicious sound of the clashing of light Sabre, an example of dietetic audio the brutality of the audio emitted from the light stable strikes emphasis brutality of the conflict and the potentially danger entailed, evoking both fear and excitement with in the audience as there is again no clear victor due to equality in power and enhanced element of action as a result of the audio consequently improving the overall viewing experience for the viewer. The harsh audio emitted again potentially implies a the aggressor will be victorious due to the close connotations associated with both evil and the harsh audio eliciting fear for the protagonist due to the seemingly inevitable defeat, consequently emphasising the emotions evoked when the protagonist is victorious.
A further element of diegetic audio incorporated to enhance the overall effect of the production is the use of the ominous breathing traits expressed by the aggressor at approximately 2.07. The slow intervals between heavy exhales and lack of all other audio elicits immense tension amongst the audience to the fear and anticipation of subsequent events with no clear ending as the main protagonist is currently perceived to be defeated. The isolation of the aggressors breathing traits enable the audience to focus on him and the fact he has attained a potentially injury or is experiencing the final stages of life. The first hint at the potentially victory of evil. The isolation of the main aggressor enable the audience to visualise his ominous attire emphasising and the purity of his evil and complete lack of positive attributes implying a lack of mercy for the protagonist evoking fear with in the audience as the future fair of the protagonist is unclear due to the brutality elicited in the aggressors attire.
During the middle stages of the extract (4minutes exactly) where the initial aggressor in clear defeated by the protagonist a subtle, synchronies non-diegetic audio is present in the background of the continuously unfolding action. To begging with the audio is subtle , faint and But still noticeable to the generic viewer implying the new aggressor lacks in power and fears attacking however due to the dramatic nature of the audio tension is evoked within the audience to the fear and anticipation of the subsequent events . However as the aggressor progresses and attacks the protagonist the amplitude of the music suddenly increases and subsequently drops to an a slight louder amplitude to the prior stage evoking fear with in the audience due to the continually increasing music fear of the protagonists life. The gradual increase in the non-dietetic audio emphasis the increase of power exhibited by the aggressor enabling the audience to experience the action and consequently feel more immersed in the overall scene.
During the scenes commencing at approximately 3 minutes 16 seconds both the protagonist and the aggressor frantically battle due to a statement expressed by the aggressor regarding the protagonist’s sister. This already enables many viewers to relate and ultimately dramatically increases the immersive element present firstly the mid shot depicting the protagonist rapidly drawing his fore sent green light saber. The illumines color of the protagonists light saber represents positivity a key attribute associated with honorable characters. This enables the audience to differentiate the characters. The protagonist is also presented to exhibit a rather humble attire in comparison to the extravagant caped aggressor. These attributes associated with the protagonist during the shot instantly evoke emotions of trust and support due to the common nature to trust an honorable character compared to that of a notoriously vicious one. Secondly the short duration of this this mid shot is displayed for before it rapped transition (an example of shot/ reverse shot) depicting a close up of the aggressor, instantly evoking fear within the audience primarily due to the low key light, emphasising the villains evil traits. However fear is also evoked due to the entirety of the aggressors attire exhibiting an ominous black impelling a lack of mercy and the entirety of his personality and perceptions are dominated by evil due to the negative connotations associated with black. Additionally due to the aggressor’s masked appearance a lack of facial expressions are conveyed to the auricle implying he lacks in all emotion and protagonists defeat is inevitable again eliciting fear with in the audience due to the naturally imposed desire for the honorable side to be victorious. The way in which the camera is angled up at the aggressor implies a greater quantity of authority and power again suggesting the aggressor will be victorious. The protagonist also possess a vivid red light sabre implying anger and is the color often associated with evil. This again hints and the inevitable defeat of the protagonist
As the battle commences a series of mid shots are Incorporated depicting both the aggressor and the protagonist in every shot impelling an equality of power evoking hope within the audience as the protagonist now possess a chance of victory. During 3.21 low key lighting is incorporated in the foreground however as the extract progresses to 3:24 it has been seemingly overpowered by high key lighting a further Hint at the potentially victory of evil and supporting the anticipated ending of the vast majority of the viewers. The eventual defeat of the aggressor evokes emotions of joy amongst the audience as it was conveyed as an impossibility throughout the duration of the extract.
However this is rapidly compromised due to the rise of a new aggressor (4.55). Who is again conveyed to exhibit a greater quantity of powered and authority as he's elevated above the protagonist and is again dressed in entirely black evoking emotions similar to that of the prior aggressor. However unlike Darth Vader the villain exposes his face depicting vast quantities of makeup to enhance the sinister perception conveyed to the audience, via the lack of pigment in his skin, bloodshot eyes and wrinkled face. All of which elicit fear within the audience due to the iconic sinister attributes exhibited consequently resulting in a lack of trust and again a desire for the triumph of evil. Finally the location in which the scene occurs is located in a vast open space within a space ship seemingly in outer space. The ship exhibits a lack of architecture and remains the same daunting grey throughout with a series of large descents all ultimately evoking fear due to the lack of variation in colour and scene of captivity due to the lack of escape roots enabling the audience to experience similar emotions to that of the protagonist. Ultimately rendering the overall production more immersive. The ominous location in which the extract is situated again enhances the audiences support for the aggresors and lack of faith for the protagonist however this also enhances the positvie emotions evoked when the protagonist is victorious.
Evaluation:
As a group we aimed to produce a comedy action spoof entitled ‘straight out of Compton’ approximately 1 month prior to the official release of the film ‘straight outa Compton’. Our alteration of ‘outa’ to ‘out of’ coincides with the social connotations associated with the location in which the film was produced (west Berkshire), thus accentuating the wealthy attributes of the area and potentially the characters incorporated, as ‘out of’ is considered to be predominantly present withies affluent areas due to the stereotypical well-spoken attributes present with in the public. The alteration in the Name instantly defies any potential preconceptions within the audience when in comparison to that of ‘Straight outa Compton’ regarding that of gangs and existing feuds. Thus eliciting an element of intrigue and interest with in the public.
I believe we achieved the key elements of the brief- this included creativity and an imaginative storyline. The locations in which our extract is predominantly situated integrates an element of creativity, due the evocative use of a class room, thus enabling the audience to instantly relate to the current situation of the students and ultimately the atmosphere and environment of the school grounds in which the film is set, this therefor enabled us to evoke the relevant emotions with in the audience, consequently accentuating a verity of aspects such as drama and fear. Furthermore, our ominous use of the wood during (1:12) accentuates the evil traits of the protagonist, thus eliciting an element of fear. Additionally, the seemingly desolate nature of the woods, provoked due to a lack of inhabitants depicted throughout the duration of the chase scene integrates an elect of captivity amongst the students, as there is no apparat escape present. Thus evoking a loss of hope with in the audience and fear of the victory of the villain and imminent defeated of the protagonists. Finaly our incorporation of our final location-a stereotypical country road- clearly depicts the students escape, there for enhancing the element of hope with in the audience due to the apparent victory of the students. This is again enhanced by the use of a vast open location depicted in the backdrop of the shot. Overall our use of location enhances the films originality.
Our evocative use of camera techniques again demonstrates our creativity present in our production. For example, this is apparent at 0:20 in which a point of view shot is incorporated, enabling the audience to visualise the escape via the perspective of the students, thus enabling to enhance the element of immersion present amongst the audience as they feel as if they are truly emerged in the action thus evoking the relevant emotions such as fear and drama. Additionally, during 0:50 a further point of view shot I incorporated, dicing Tom’s death, in which the remaining 2 students tower over Tom. The shot coveys Toms lack of power as the he is perceived to be lower to the ground due to the prior injuries sustained there for accentuating the superiority present in the reaming students. Tom’s apparent Lack of power enables the audience to sympathise for the students as it is clear they have been overpowered. Additionally, Toms inability to move accentuates the power present with in the villain due to his violence and brutality. Finally, at approximately 1:29 a long shot depicting the silhouette of one of the students clearly escaping the villain. The use of the sill out incorporates an element of mystery due to the audience’s inability to determine who has escaped; however due to the absence of one of the students and the inability to determine who an element of fear is evoked as it is apparent one has failed to escape. Our originality demonstrated via our camera techniques, both ensures the film is both creative and imaginative in comparison to that of texts of similar genres.
My extensive use of both diegetic- sound present from with in the text- and Non- diegetic audio -sound integrated during the post production prosse-accentuated specific emotions with in the production. Firstly, the dimeric sound presents during the opening stages of the movie exeats, the fear, frustration and enabled us to integrate an element of comedy. The use of Dimeric sound enabled us to evoke the corresponding emotions with in the audience and convey the personalities each character. Additionally, the use of Carmina Burana during the initial escape at 0:20 and the presence of the villain dramatically accentuates the element of fear and dram present during the extract. The use of the iconic song accentuates the villains attributes accolated with the Villon, thus eliciting fear with in the audience due to its dramatic melody. The vast increase in the tracks volume during the initial presence of the vile vastly contributes to the enhancement of his villainous attributes. Furthermore, my use of ‘see you again’ at 0:53 seconds dramatic exudates the friendship present with in the protngaists thus evoking sadness with in the audience due to the ability to relate to emotions present during friendships and the potential emotions evoked doing the loss of a friend. Finally, my use of royal blood’s figure out during 1:04 conveys the protagonist’s confusion to why they are being chased consequently evoking corresponding emotions with in the audile as they are being chased for no apparent reason, thus evoking an element of mystery and confusion with in the audience.
During the production of our extract we altered a multitude of elements, predominantly the lack of diegetic audio. This occurred as the locations in which we primarily based our extract exhibited vast public attraction, this resulted in excess and undesirable noise consequently limiting our ambitious attempt to integrate and element of drama. The unnecessary audio present in our end production lead the inevitable use of Non- Diegetic audio to substitute for the inadequate audio obtained during the production stage. Additionally, the vast quantity of excess wind noise again leads to the incorporation of music subsequent to the production proses as the as the primary audio was overpowered to the immense wind Nosie consequently rendering it illegible. Additionally, we vastly altered our shot list due to the integration of new ideas, which would result future success of our film. A primary example of this was situated during the final shot at 1:28, in which we filmed the evocative silhouette of one of the students escaping, consequently eliciting a multitude of questions regarding the safety of the students thus evoking an element of intrigue to our production. This also enabled us to finish the movie on a cliff hanger thus evoking suspense. However, we maintained vital aspects of our production such as the initial plot and the order in which the scenes are depicted. We believed this was imperative, ultimately to maintain the logistics of the film to ensure the extract we produced was at our optimum ability, due to our understanding of the plot and the order in which we aimed to film the extract. Our collective understanding of the desired end product enabled us to meet the bread as we each ensured we understood the points at which we would effectively integrate our creativity, thus enabling to work efficiently and incorporate a verity of shots.
I aimed to vastly contribute to the planning proses (during pre-production) to enhance my understanding and input into our finale product. For example, I produced the short list, equipment and aided with the risk assessment and the storyboard. I completed these tasks as I was providing the camera and the majority of the equipment necessary for the production, thus enabling me to determine the shots that were capable and the equipment require to for fill them. This there for enabled me to Contribute to both the story board- as the shots we aimed to integrate was an imperative element to this – and the risk assessment as I was able to convey the potential risks involved at different locations during the production proses. Additionally, this enabled me to complete the equipment list as it ensured I was aware of the equipment required during each scene due to my vast involvement.my Involvement untimely aided the production poses as I was able to coordinate the shots required and the equipment involved, this ensured we efficiently worked through the short list and altering specific aspects to optimize our environment efficiently throughout the duration of two days. This enabled us to meet the brief as it ensured a series of creative an evocative shot was incorporated into the end product.
During the post-production presses I believe my strengths were predominantly oriented around the production of the shot list as I was aware of the capabilities of the equipment, thus ensuring I was able to integrate a series of evocative shots which therefore enabled us to meet the brief.Addditonaly I believed I excelled during the organization aspect of the production, as I ensured we purchased the required equipment prior to the production stage, and established dates in which the entirety of the cast was available, this ensured we were able to felicity complete our movie during the production prosses.Finnally I believe I an additional strength the production stage was my ability to convey my ideas and perceptions to the group, this ensured they were aware of each stage of planning, thus enabling them to adapt their ideas to coincide with that of mine ultimately enabling us to effetely work as a team to produce our optimum product.
During the production process I believe my strengths were primarily focused on the distribution of orders regarding that of camera angles and the positions in which the actors were required to being to optimize the effect of the shot, to ultimately evoke the correct emotion with in the audience. Additionally I ensured the cameras were working and situated in the correct location for the desired shot, I also ensured I aimed to alter the scrip and shot list if a shot , that would exude a greater element of creativity which would ultimately enhance our ability to meet the specifications of the brief a predominate example of this was during 1:28 as this shot was not originally stashed on our shot list however due to the optimum lighting currently present I believed it was imperative the shot was incorporated to enhance the creativity of the ending. Additionally, I believe we exhibited the ability to adapted to the connotations accosted with each character consequently integrating an element of creativity into our production.
Finally, I believed I exhibited a multitude of strengths during the post-production stage regarding that of editing techniques. Firstly, I ensured I maintained the technique of invisible editing, this technique is frequently incorporated into the majority of movies and televised shows. This effects enabled me to ensure the movie is perceived as fluid and structured. Additionally I believe the implementation of audio enabled me to accentuate and evoke the relevant emotions throughout the duration of the extract, my ability to ensure the movie was timed to desired aspects in the movie such as the transition of shots an example of this is situated at 0:39 in which an element of drama is implemented due to the vast increase in the amplitude of the song and the use of instructs that emit low frequency audio, which stereo typically represent the villainous attributes of the character. Additionally, this is again demonstrated at 1:29 in which the camera is suddenly focused on a smaller aspect of the shot to coincide with the base of the music.
There’re a multitude of elements in which require improvement, in each sector of production. For example during our Pre-production I Believe the key aspect of improvement would be our depth in areas such as the risk assessment which required more detail to enable us to inforce it during the production presses’ lack of detail was incorporated into this due to the limited and constrictive time available for the pre-production presses as elements such as the short list were vastly time consuming, however this element did fail to Hodder the quality of our end product, although it did limit our safety during the production presses. During the Production presses elects such as the quantity of dimeric audio integrated into the end product due to the multitude of audio that exhibited the audio of cars which consequently rendering it illegible meaning it wasn’t eligible for the end product to overcome this by ensuring we filmed in locations in which a lack of background noise is present. additionally, the alteration of lighting from day to night during different aspects of the extract also lead difficulty in maintain the narrative of the movie. This was caused due to the rapped transition from day to night during the winter months and lack of the cast availability to ensure we filmed be for night. However, this issue can be overcome by filming during a subsequent month in which light is available for a longer duration of time. Finally, during the post production stage elements such as the fluidity of the music during 0:39 in which the transition is noticeable, thus reducing the desired invisible editing effect. The could be overcome by ensuring the volume is gradually increased or maintained.
